Christine Acosta

I started learning dance when I was about 4 years old. I took classes in ballet and tap, and later on I took jazz. At around 9 years old, I quit dance and pursued other activities.

When I was 17, I had the opportunity to see a live performance of The Nutcracker. It was then I realized that having quit dance was one of the most foolish things I had ever done. The performance inspired me to pursue dance again and gave me an appreciation for the art form.

My first step back into the dance world was one semester of ballet at El Camino College with Bernice Williams. I then transferred to California State University Dominguez Hills where I proceeded to take 4 years of dance under the director of dance at the school, Professor Carol Tubbs. I took many different types of dance classes during those years including Ballet, Tap, Modern, Jazz, Middle Eastern dance (belly dance), Flamenco, dance history, music for dance, choreography, stage and performance, and theatre production.

I had the opportunity to perform with the Carson Symphony Orchestra in the performance of “Billy The Kid” in 2000 and “Le Boeuf Sur Le Toit” in 2001. During the summers of 1999 and 2001, I spent two weeks in the CSU Summer Arts Dance Program in Fresno. There I continued studying the forms of dance I was familiar with as well as ethnic forms of dance such as Balinese, Javanese, Russian Character, and Mexican Folklorico.

During my 4 years at CSU Dominguez Hills, I gained lots of experience with performing on stage. In my last year I choreographed a dance piece with two other people and performed it on stage. That was a wonderful experience for me.

I graduated cum luade in 2001 from CSU Dominguez Hills with a Bachelor Of Arts in Television and Performance and a minor in dance.
